Pathogenesis and commensalism of enterobacteria
Team 2
Keywords: Bacterial Commensalism and Pathogenesis, Intestinal microbiota
The “Pathogenesis and Commensalism of Enterobacteria” team, led by Eric Oswald, employs a multidisciplinary approach (microbiology, molecular and cellular biology, immunology, metagenomics, integrative physiology, and animal models) to investigate the boundary between bacterial commensalism and pathogenesis and their role in modulating the host cell cycle, genomic integrity, physiology, and metabolism. To achieve these goals, new scientific and technological insights have been gained in various aspects of bacterial infection, intestinal colonization, and ecology.
The team focuses on multiple pathovars of Escherichia coli, including enteropathogenic, hemorrhagic, and extraintestinal pathogenic E. coli (EPEC, EHEC, and ExPEC), as well as commensal and probiotic E. coli and the intestinal microbiota. Their work also explores dysbiosis and its impact on infection, metabolic diseases, and carcinogenesis.
Several research axes are being developed:
- Toxins and cancers
- From commensalism to pathogenicity
- Pathogenic bacteria and antibiotic resistance
- Dysbiosis involving Escherichia coli and metabolic diseases
